Workshops & Courses

In addition to my teaching work in Leipzig, I regularly have the opportunity to work for various organizations in Germany and neighboring countries:

Klezmer Orchestra Erfurt

Since 2019, I have had the honor and pleasure of serving as the violin section leader, soloist, and member of the faculty team and the 80-member Klezmer Orchestra Erfurt project orchestra. If you’re looking for an extraordinary musical and human experience, I highly recommend visiting the orchestra’s website and participating.

Yiddish Summer Weimar

Yiddish Summer Weimar is one of the world’s leading klezmer festivals and has been dedicated to the exploration and advancement of Yiddish culture since 1999. A wide variety of courses on music, singing, dance, and language are offered annually and taught by top-notch musicians and scholars from around the world. In the summer of 2026, I will have the honor of teaching the intermediate-level course on Klezmer music alongside highly esteemed colleagues and friends.

Network for Jewish History and Culture in Bavarian Swabia

Throughout the region, there are associations and initiatives dedicated to commemorating and revitalizing Jewish sites and traditions. In the fall of 2025, I had the opportunity to work with colleagues from the bands Feygele and Mesinke to develop a total of four concert programs with students from 10 different arts high schools and to perform them in two synagogues, among other venues.
In 2027, this project will be repeated for the association “Network for Jewish History and Culture in Bavarian Swabia.”

The Open Klezmer Kapelye Basel

The Open Klezmer Kapelye Basel is also a non-profit association dedicated to promoting and sharing music, dance, art, and culture related to the Klezmer folk music tradition. After helping to organize a day full of Klezmer music in 2025, I am looking forward to traveling to Basel at the end of this year to teach a music theory course.

Key areas:

  • Repertoire and the technical challenges it presents
  • Training the inner imagination: How should it sound, what do I want to “say”?
  • Inner attitude and outward posture
  • Piece-specific music theory on key and harmony
  • Improvisation using material from the current pieces
  • Lots of singing and rhythmic speech
Individual or group lessons with stylefocus take place in Leipzig, in the Reudnitz/Zentrum-Ost neighborhood.
