Halva is New Yiddish Music by bandleader and violinist Nicolaas Cottenie. Most of the tunes are traditional Yiddish dance forms carrying a colourful combination of consonance and dissonance inspired by Greek and Hungarian fiddle bands, classical music and jazz. The main ingredient though, is klezmer music. Check out our video. If you want to order our debut album Halva – The Sweetest Klezmer Orchestra write me an email.

Azind – Traditional Klezmer Duo

Atsind is a duo with my dear friend and collegue Nicolaas Cottenie.  We perform traditional klezmer pieces in duo’s of two violins, akkordeon and violin and mandola and violin.

Bakad Kapelye

Bakad Kapelye is my oldest Klezmerprojet. Since 12 years now we rock the house. With a royal dose of traditionalism, we put together a sound that connects traditional European dance- and partymusic with all kinds of pop-, rock- and other influences.

In the course of the years, we made three CD’s.

  • Eins… und spielt (2010, sold out)
  • Ohrenzucker (2013)
  • Augen zu und tanzen (2018)

Sting Carpet

In the course of the years I’ve been a member of several different Swing Bands. My last and certainly most fun one is the Belgian Quartet String Carpet with its home base in Brussels, Belgium. I met my three colleges during our jazz studies at the conservatory of Brussels and it became clear pretty quickly that we did not just share a particular love for swing music but a specific leaning towards a nice shrill and piercing humour. We never recorded a CD but instead produced three nice videos whose potential for amusement and exhilaration was tested oftentimes and passed the test. ;-).
